Mayor of Liverpool Wendy Waller is urging Liverpool residents aged 18 and over to get vaccinated after receiving her first AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at a local pharmacy.

“Getting many Australians fully vaccinated as soon as possible is key to safeguarding the community against the COVID-19 threat – and our freedom.

“Our walk-in pop-up vaccination hubs are now up and running in four community facilities and have had a very successful opening week. On the first day alone, over 120 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccinations were administered at the Chipping Norton Community Centre. This was a great start although we need more locals to take up the opportunity.

“It is important that everyone does their bit – this is not a halfway solution. If you are still feeling unsure about the vaccination, consult your GP,” said Mayor Waller.

With Greater Sydney in its sixth week of lockdown, Mayor Waller is urging residents struggling to get by to seek out support services operating across the Liverpool Local Government Area.

“It would be impossible to find one person in our community who this pandemic has not touched in one way or another,” Mayor Waller said. “Many residents and businesses who may have not had to rely on financial support from the Government in the past are now using it as a lifeline.”

She said many national and local charities, community organisations and services are lending a hand to those who need support with food security and mental health.

“Trained professionals from support services such as Beyond Blue, Lifeline and the Kids Helpline are on hand to help 24 hours, seven days a week and just a call away,” Mayor Waller said.

Local charities including The Salvation Army and Anglicare are temporarily closed but continue to provide over the phone support with food vouchers and hampers.

Council is also proud to be doing our bit to help ease the financial burden on our residents during this time.

“So far, we have waived childcare gap payments for parents who have chosen to keep their children home during the stay-at-home order.

“At the July meeting, Council resolved to extend a hardship provisions package to eligible residential, business and farmland properties in the Liverpool Local Government Area,” Mayor Waller said.
